Acrylic glass - Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA)
Since 1933 hard, clear sheets and blocks were manufactured from methacrylic acid methyl ester by Röhm and Haas in Darmstadt. It was from here that production went global.Because of their properties, which are similar to the properties of glass, acrylates are also called organic or acrylic glass.
The Czech designation plexisklo (acrylic glass) is today commonly used as the designation for acrylate, more commonly polymethyl methacrylate. The name of this material is often abbreviated to PMMA and coloured or clear acrylic glass is made from it.
