Moulds have to be made to produce mouldings by plastic vacuum forming. Unlike moulds designed for plastic injection, the design of the moulds for plastic vacuum forming is usually simpler and therefore less costly. Moulds are usually made of aluminium, dural or special aluminium filled epoxy resins. The test moulds are usually made of MDF panels or artificial wood. Vacuum forming moulds are many times cheaper than plastic injection technology which in certain cases makes production very cheap and quicker.
The price ratio of moulds is based on the complexity of the moulds, size and used material for their production.
